Access to technology has become an essential part of modern healthcare, yet many individuals in Wilmington, DE, and beyond still face significant barriers to using digital health tools. Without reliable devices and internet access, many struggle to schedule virtual visits, check their lab results, or use apps designed to help manage their conditions. These challenges contribute to delayed care, increased hospital visits, and poorer health outcomes, particularly in communities with limited resources.

Recognizing this gap, a collaboration between CyberCrunchHighmark Inc. (Highmark), and the Delaware Health Equity Coalition (DHEC) is working to ensure that individuals have the technology they need to take control of their health by leveraging a secure healthcare IT asset disposition solution.

A Digital Lifeline in Healthcare

In today’s world, technology is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity, especially in healthcare. The ability to schedule telehealth appointments, access electronic health records (EHRs), and use health-tracking applications is crucial for managing chronic conditions and receiving timely care.

However, for many in Wilmington’s underserved communities, these tools remain out of reach due to financial and accessibility constraints. Without access to technology, patients face significant difficulties in:

● Connecting with healthcare providers remotely.

● Understanding and managing their medical information.

● Utilizing online resources to make informed healthcare decisions.

A Community-Driven Solution

The Delaware Health Equity Coalition, a physician-led initiative dedicated to addressing systemic healthcare inequities, has been working to bridge this gap by providing hands-on digital literacy training and resources to patients. Their efforts focus on ensuring that people not only receive access to technology but also understand how to use it effectively.

To support this mission, CyberCrunch and Highmark have stepped in to donate laptops and tablets that will be integrated into DHEC’s patient education programs. Laptops and tablets were provided in partnership with enGen, a wholly owned healthtech subsidiary of Highmark Health, parent company of Highmark Inc.

These devices will enable individuals to:

● Schedule and attend virtual doctor appointments.

● Navigate electronic health records and telehealth platforms.

● Build confidence in using technology for their healthcare needs.

“We’re working to improve the health and well-being of those we serve by giving back to, reinvesting in, and strengthening the communities where our customers and employees live, work and play. said Nick Moriello, President Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware.

Collaboration for Lasting Change

Highmark has long been a leader in health equity initiatives across Delaware, and this partnership with DHEC and CyberCrunch is another step in their mission to eliminate healthcare barriers. Together, they are ensuring that digital health tools aren’t just available to those with immediate access but are extended to communities where they are needed most.

This initiative is just the beginning of a long-term program aimed at expanding access to digital health tools and education throughout the year and beyond. By building sustainable partnerships and continually providing resources, CyberCrunch, Highmark, and DHEC are committed to making a lasting impact in healthcare accessibility.

“This partnership is about more than technology–it’s about empowering our community through education. When patients have access to digital tools and the knowledge to use them, they can take control of their health and improve their lives.” said Dr. Velma Scantlebury, Co-Founder of Delaware Health Equity Coalition.

CyberCrunch: Technology for Good

As an IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) company, CyberCrunch is known for securely recycling and repurposing retired technology. A Call to Action

The fight to close the digital divide requires collaboration between businesses, healthcare providers, and community organizations. This initiative is just one example of how organizations can come together to create meaningful change.

At CyberCrunch, we’re honored to work alongside Highmark and the Delaware Health Equity Coalition to ensure that everyone has the tools they need to lead healthier lives.
